The Family & Holy Week

"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates."

Deuteronomy 6:4-9

Holy Week is the perfect opportunity to begin exposing your family to the life, teachings, and wonder of Jesus Christ!

We make much about the birth of Jesus Christ and spend an entire month anticipating Christmas Day. Yet, simultaneously, the most important event of the Christian faith, the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus, gets consolidated into a single Sunday.

Holy Week is the perfect time to bring our faith to life and make it an operating portion of our household.

Let this week be a time that you as a family classify as sacred, dismissing the regular schedule and entertainment for a purposeful magnification of Jesus and His selfless act of love on the Cross of Calvary!

For the Christian Faith to be authentic to our children, then we must practice, it must be live, and it must be present in the home!

Holy Week gives us the perfect time to bring the Bible into the home by sharing the gospel accounts of Jesus's death on the cross.

Each evening, read a different gospel account together as a family. Discuss what it means to each of you. Let the details of those events sink into the hearts and minds of the family, and conclude your time with prayer, thanking Jesus for dying for our sins.

Another idea that our family will do next year is each evening, from Saturday to Saturday, we will look at the seven sayings of Jesus on the cross. Each evening we will review one of the seven statements made by Jesus, look at the Old Testament scriptures that prophesied the event, and learn how those statements impact us and our faith as a family.

We plan to put it in a presentation format. So if that is something you would be interested in, email us at purejoypublications@gmail.com, and we will be sure to include a copy of that family study for you.

It is as essential to you as it is to us to ensure our children know Jesus and see in us a living faith that they can follow. So let us take this Holy Week, magnify Jesus in our homes, and allow our families to develop a more profound affection and reverence for Jesus Christ!
