What are the Landmark Books?

The Landmark books are actually two sets of nonfiction series books for children commissioned and published by Random House from 1950 through 1970.  While several publishers were, at that time, creating sets of nonfiction books for youth, there is nothing like them being published today.

The World Landmark series consists of 63 books, each dealing with a person, event, or organization that impacted world history.  The Landmark series consists of 122 books that deal exclusively with American history.

Landmark books were highly acclaimed then as they are now and have become even more widely recognized as an excellent resource due to the rapidly expanding homeschooling movement and the use of biographies as curriculum by homeschooling families.

Most of the titles are now out of print but some have been reprinted in paperback form from several different publishers.  This reference guide is not all inclusive as information of this kind is very hard to gather, but my experience over ten years of collecting has taught me much and in World Landmark Books, A Homeschoolers' Guide, I share as much as I know regarding printers and editions.
